Katy Perry Is Your 2017 MTV VMA Host: Watch Her Intergalactic Promo

Katy Perry will bring her comedy chops and fashion to the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards as the pop star has been announced as the host for the upcoming ceremony, which takes place August 27.

MTV shared the news on Thursday (July 27) with an elaborate promotional video of her floating through space in a pink spacesuit. "I've been training with @MTV in zero gravity, eating astronaut ice cream, and I’m on a group text with Buzz Aldrin and Neil deGrasse Tyson," she captioned the video. "Come August 27th, I’ll be ready to be your MOONWOMAN! Brace for impact, kids." Watch the promo below!

Perry's hosting gig makes sense, considering she's nominated for five separate categories, including Best Pop, Best Direction, and Best Visual Effects for "Chained to the Rhythm"; Best Art Direction for "Bon Appetit"; and Best Collaboration for Calvin Harris’s “Feels” featuring Pharrell Williams, Perry, and Big Sean.

However, Kendrick Lamar leads the pack of nominees with eight separate titles. The Weeknd is also up for five nominations. If you're wondering just where Best Female Video and Best Male Video categories went, well, they've been combined into Video of the Year for the first time in MTV VMA history. Best Fight Against the System has also been added to the list.
