Aretha Franklin has a new sign of R-E-S-P-E-C-T: an honorary Doctor of Arts degree from Harvard.


Aretha shared the stage at the commencement ceremony on Thursday with former President George H.W. Bush and former New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg, who also received honorary degrees.


A Harvard dean hailed her as "her regal highness, the Queen of Soul."


Then she proved it. Wearing a crimson gown and a traditional black graduation cap, Aretha sat at the piano and belted out this stirring version of the Star Spangled Banner:
