"Fifty Shades" readers - prone to bad behavior?

Women who enjoyed reading the 50 Shades books aren't just living life on the kinkier side. According to a new study, they are also more likely to engage in unhealthy behaviors.

Researchers interviewed 655 young women and found that participants who read the first book in the series were more likely to have a boyfriend or spouse who yelled or cursed at them and women who read all three books were 65% more likely to binge drink and 63% more likely to have had more than five sexual partners – compared to women who didn't read any of the books.

The study didn't determine if the bad behaviors were present before reading the books or were initiated after reading the books, but researchers stress that for women who struggle with addiction issues or struggle in abusive relationships, reading the books "might reaffirm those experiences and potentially aggravate related trauma."
