Artists never get paid to perform at the Super Bowl halftime show, but now the NFL is trying to push things even further -- and has asked Katy Perry, Rihanna and Coldplay if they'd be willing to pay the league for the chance to play!
The Wall Street Journal reports that the league has narrowed its choices for Super Bowl 49 to those three acts, and asked their reps how much they'd shell out for the exposure -- but the response has been chilly at best. According to the Journal, NFL execs checked to see if the acts would pay outright, or whether they'd be "willing to contribute a portion of their post-Super Bowl tour income to the league."
The league refused to confirm or deny the report and issued a statement saying "when we have something to announce, we'll announce it."
Super Bowl 49 will be played in Phoenix on February 1st.
