It's time to check your contract to see when you're eligible for a phone upgrade, because it looks as if Apple will reveal the iPhone 6 on September 9th.

The notoriously coy company sent out invitations earlier this week to members of the media and analysts for a September 9th event in its home town of Cupertino, California where they're expected to reveal the latest iPhone, but they're not exactly saying that. Instead, the invite simply has the date -- 9-9-2014 -- along with the words, "Wish we could say more."

The date falls a year and a day after Apple introduced the iPhone 5S and 5C, but some analysts suspect that company's plans may extend beyond just mobile phones.

Ezra Gottheil of Technology Business Research notes that the tagline "hints at something unexpected," adding, "We know there will be an iPhone in two [screen] sizes, we think we know there will be an 'iWatch,' or whatever Apple calls its wearble [device]. But there have been a lot of leaks of a larger-sized tablet. I betcha that's the unexpected."

Gottheil is hinting at a larger-sized iPad, perhaps with a 13-inch screen.
