There is no shortage of crazy diets that celebrities have tried in order to stay thin. But eating clay might be a new low.
Lenny Kravitz's daughter Zoe, along with actress Shailene Woodley have copped to drinking clay in order to stay thin for movie roles.
Shailene even defended it to David Letterman saying, "Clay binds to other material in your body and helps your body excrete those materials that are not necessarily the best for you.”
But it's no surprise that health professionals say this is a terrible idea.
Dr. Joseph Pinzone, a California-based internist and endocrinologist warns: “Eating clay is not proven to help people lose weight and there are potential short and long term adverse effects such as bloating, constipation, and abdominal pain. You might also ingest parasites in the clay and disrupt the absorption of food and medication from the clay coating the wall of stomach and intestine.”
So for the love of all things edible, do us a favor and DON'T EAT CLAY!
