Britain's Daily Mail has apologized to George Clooney after the star blasted the newspaper for publishing a story about his upcoming marriage.

The article, published earlier this week, alleged that the mother of his fiance Amal Alamuddin objected to their marriage on religious grounds. Clooney called the story a "fabrication" and accused the Mail of "irresponsibility."

In a statement, the Mail said, "We accept Mr. Clooney's assurance that the story is inaccurate. We have removed the article from our website and will be contacting Mr. Clooney's representatives to discuss giving him the opportunity to set the record straight."

Still, the Mail insisted its story had not been made up but had been "supplied in good faith by a reputable and trusted freelance journalist."
