USA Today released its pre-season coaches poll Thursday -- and it picks up right where it left off in January.

Florida State, powered by returning Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston -- is ranked number-one. The Seminoles narrowly edged Auburn in the BCS National Championship Game to win last season's crown. Alabama is at number-two, Oklahoma is number-three, Oregon is number-four, and Auburn is number-five.

Unlike during the BCS era, the poll won't directly impact who plays in the championship game. For the first time, college football will hold a four-team playoff, and a selection committee will choose which four squads participate. The Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl will host the semi-final games, and the title game will be played at AT&T Stadium in Arlington Texas on January 12th.
