My Mother's Day Present is Much More than Just a Tree

Radio people move.  That's what they do.  Honestly, had I known I had to move away from my family when I chose this as my career choice, I probably would have chosen something different!! It was so hard moving away from my parent's house in Clinton when I was 24.  I'll never forget pulling out of their driveway fighting back tears waving my mom goodbye to move into their condo in Ocean City, MD temporarily before I got my own apartment in Rehoboth Beach for my first on-air jock job in radio in 2007 (I was a traffic reporter for 2.5 years before that in Silver Spring).  I planned on being gone for 2 years to get the experience I needed to come back home and do radio in DC.  Well, 7 years later I got another job in Delaware, after I didn't get a job back here in DC.  As a matter of fact, I didn't get a job here in DC 3 times.  I didn't get a job in Baltimore once.  I didn't get a job in Philly once.  I didn't get a lot of jobs, but I kept at it day in and day out because I wanted it so badly.  After 9 years of trying, any time there was an opening, and a lot of times when there wasn't (I'd just email random people telling them I wanted to work at their stations)  I finally got my dream job back home.  I told my mom over FaceTime and we both cried again.  I was finally able to come back home, on my terms with my dream job waiting for me.  A lot has changed since I left 11 years ago.  I'm an adult now.  I'm a mother, I'm a wife and I can finally say, I'm a homeowner... with a brand new tree in my front yard that I can watch grow!!
