Thanks to long layovers, or even having to get to the airport super early because of TSA security, it isn’t uncommon to see people dozing off at the gate, especially before early morning flights. Well, in case you missed it, some airports in Europe are taking steps to make that airport nap a little more pleasant.
Some European airports plan to add Airpods in their terminal. These futuristic looking capsules can be rented by the hour and not only provide a plush chair for folks to take naps, but also feature places to charge devices, a link to Wi-Fi, a place to store luggage and even Netflix. There’s also air purifiers to keep it clean, and it specifically reduces outside noise, so you'll be able to escape the hustle and bustle going on around you.
Now, it’s normal to be concerned that you may fall so deeply asleep that you’ll miss your flights, but those who rent the Airpods will be able to set an alarm to wake them when they need to go to their gate, and also check on flight alerts.
The plan is for European airports to start testing these Airpods sometime this year, with hopes they’ll start turning up around the globe. Other airports have attempted to make nap time better for travelers. For example, Helsinki airport features GoSleep nap pods, while Las Vegas’ McCarran Airport actually has private bedrooms available to rent, and New York’s LaGuardia airport features Jabbrrbox for napping.
