That beast was the demise of my existence all throughout high school, since I lived in Clinton and went to school in Virginia at Bishop Ireton. It would take HOURS to get home, and that was just because of run of the mill traffic, not accounting for an accident or incident jamming things up on the bridge even worse. The same fate is true for the "top side" of the Beltway with the American Legion Bridge. We lose lanes to cross the river and sit in traffic in both directions, seemingly at all hours, in order to cross one stretch of roadway. According to this new deal between Hogan and Northam, the new American Legion Bridge will have a total of 8 travel lanes, and an additional 4 express lanes. Now, we wait... and wait... and wait. They're saying it will take at least a decade.
