There are a number of new laws in effect beginning today, July 1, in Maryland, Virginia and the District. In Maryland, Montgomery County residents have had an increase in their minimum wage. In Virginia, voters can now vote absentee for any and all reasons, and in DC private sector residents now have paid family leave for the birth of a newborn, an ailing family member and to address personal medical issues.
