Alec Baldwin Comments on the Tragic Set Shooting

Alec Baldwin has given his first – and probably only – interview in the wake of the accidental shooting on the set of “Rust” that left Halyna Huchins dead.

TMZ shared footage of Alec and his family in Vermont. He and Hilaria got out of their car to address the gathered media. While he was polite – albeit intense – his wife seemed particularly annoyed. She didn’t really want him to talk, but he said he wanted to.

Naturally, the actor couldn’t comment on the pending investigation, but he explained that he and the late cinematographer were friends. “The day I arrived in Santa Fe and started shooting I took her to dinner with Joel [Souza], the director,” he said. “We were a very, very well-oiled crew shooting a film together and then this horrible event happened.”

  • One thing Alec is pretty certain of is that the production is now over. He also touched on the movement to rethink the use of firearms in film and TV productions.
  • When he finished speaking, he politely asked them to leave him and his family alone.

Hannah Gutierrez-Reed – the head armorer and the one responsible for gun safety on the set – released a statement through her attorney. They said that she’s “devastated and completely beside herself over the events that have transpired.” In addition, they blamed the producers because they hired her for two jobs, which made it “extremely difficult for her to focus on her job as an armorer.” The lawyers went on to say, “She fought for training, days to maintain weapons, and proper time to prepare for gunfire but ultimately was overruled by production and her department. The whole production set became unsafe due to various factors, including lack of safety meetings.”
