It's a thing... you host Thanksgiving dinner, it's done, but people just don't take the hint... and split! Well, over at LIFEHACKER, they've put together a list for you which might help you send the message: It's time for you to go, yo!
SET A TIMELINE BEFOREHAND — Put it in writing. Set the timeline or setlist in a group text. Let people know when it's cool to show up, when its time for the meal, time for FOOTBALL... and when it's time to clean up and GET OUT!
HAND GUESTS A PLATE OF LEFTOVERS -- This is also something I've witnessed first hand (hey there Daddio!)... I know it's time to go when Melissa breaks out the trays which look like the trays you get at Chinese food restaurants and fills 'em up with the broccoli thing she makes. When this happens, the time to sober up and prepare to bounce!
STAND UP — Yup. Make a statement by standing up and sending the message... "I'm done, we're done, it's time to go!"
PUT THE ALCOHOL AWAY — Clear the room of the booze and watch what happens. It's like last call at the club back in the day. Can't get no more drink? Time to bounce. Cut 'em off and they'll get the hint, unless they're trashed, and then, call Uber or Lyft!
TALK ABOUT YOUR PLANS THE NEXT DAY — Talk about how you've gotta get some rest for Black Friday, or travel or whatnot. If they don't get the hint, well, keep talking about it and if they still don't get the hint... just drop the bomb and say OKAY TIME TO LEAVE GET OUT!
Good luck! We're all counting on you!
