Use the Friendship Pie Theory to Create the Perfect Friend Group

We recently discussed how having a friend squad feels like an essential part of living your best life and if you don’t have one? Well, you might have some serious FOMO when scrolling through IG on a Saturday morning seeing everyone have a fabulous brunch with their fabulous friends.

Once a friendship squad has been established, how do you maintain such a tight-knit friendship that’s actually fulfilling? Introducing what TikTok user Brittany Allyn calls, “the friendship pie theory.”

She explains it in her video as, “the key to being happy with friendships.” The friendship pie theory involves having a different friend for each “slice of the pie” looking something like this:

  • the “fancy restaurant and life-talk friend”
  • the “yoga friend you meet for tea or coffee”
  • the “tequila-loving dance party friend”
  • the “friend on the phone that has known you for 20 years”

It’s a way to categorize your friendships based on particular interests and personalities. This takes the pressure off of trying to force yourselves and your friends to participate in things you really have no interest participating in. For example, stop inviting your introverted friend out to the bars every Friday and instead ask if they want to have a movie night on Saturday.

The bottom line? It's about “making sure that you're getting the most out of your friendships” and structuring them based on your shared interests.
