2021 | Heart Surgery at Children's National Saved Newborn Brianna

Brianna was born in September 2019 with Trisomy 18 and congenital heart defects and was in the hospital until November 20 before returning home the first time. Shortly after she went home, doctors vocalized that they felt she was a good candidate for heart surgery and then from January through May, she stayed at Children's National for the care and treatment that she needed.

Brianna is one of 5 and while she was at Children's, staff members were engaged with her parents and siblings. Healing garden staff and Child Life helped her siblings cope with her conditions and also participate in activities at the hospital. Her family is grateful for such a positive and collaborative experience with the NICU staff that provided Brianna a life they never thought was possible. She just celebrated her 2nd birthday in early September & still visits Children's National to treat complications.
