Montgomery County Requests National Guard to Help with Bus Driver Shortage

It's no secret we've been dealing with a school bus driver shortage throughout the DMV since before school began in August. However, it's gotten much worse since the omicron spike. Today, Montgomery County put in a request to the National Guard for 200 bus drivers to help get school transportation back on track. The Maryland Department of Emergency Management put in the request on behalf of Montgomery County Public Schools, but to no avail. The guard was already called into the state of Maryland last week when Governor Larry Hogan announced a State of Emergency in Maryland in order to increase capacity at hospitals to respond to the rising cases of omicron in the state.
