How To Save Money During These Hard Times

Between talks of a recession, high inflation, and uncertainty in the job market, it can feel impossible to save money, especially for Gen Zers. With most of the money they’re making likely covering rent and other everyday expenses, there’s little – if nothing – to save. But you still should be saving, and here’s so easy ways that you can still save money.

  • Cash back and coupon apps. Options like Rakuten, Honey, and Ibotta that’ll give you cash back for shopping you’re already doing.
  • The “10-second rule.” Before you make an impulse buy, take ten seconds to think about if you really need it.
  • Shop alone. Yeah, shopping with friends and family is fun, but it leads to more impulse-buying and peer pressure.
  • Pay with cash. People tend to spend less when they’re actually realizing how much they’re spending.
  • Never go shopping sad. You tend to make more emotional purchases of things you don’t need.
  • Track your expenses. Track your income, too, so you know exactly how much you’re spending and making. Seeing it on paper can be eye-opening.
