Ice cream is one of life’s simple pleasures, but one company is taking it to the extreme with an over-the-top new flavor. Cellato, a Japanese ice cream company, has combined some of the rarest and most luxurious ingredients to create the most expensive ice cream on the planet.
The flavor, called “Byakuya,” is made with:
- White truffle grown in Alba, Italy, a rare delicacy that costs around $6,905 per pound
- Parmigiano Reggiano
- Sake lees, a by-product of Japanese sake production
- And gold leaf
It now holds the Guinness World Record for the world’s most expensive ice cream, but what does it taste like? The flavor is described as “complex” and “rich,” as well as truffle-forward with hints of “fruity” Parmigiano cheese and sake lees for a “glorious taste experience.” If you want to taste it for yourself, be prepared for sticker shock, as a scoop will set you back a staggering $6,696.
