Memorial Day weekend is finally here and millions of Americans will be getting out of town for the holiday. It’s actually expected to be the third busiest ever for travel, and AAA predicts over 42-million people will be traveling for the three-day weekend. With all those people on the road, you’ll want to know when the best and worst times are for those road trips.
Best times to travel by car:
- According to AAA, the lightest days for traffic will be Saturday and Sunday.
- Aside from those, AAA says the next best time to head out is today before noon.
- For your trip back home, the company says before 10a.m. Monday or Tuesday before 2p.m. or after 6p.m. are your best bets.
Worst times for car travel:
- INRIX, which provides transportation data and insights, says today (Friday) will be the busiest day on the roads.
- The heaviest traffic will be from 3p.m. to 6p.m. today.
- For return travel, Monday from noon to 3p.m., and Tuesday from 4p.m. to 6p.m. will be the most congested.
