How Long It Takes Someone To Know If They Want A Second Date

First dates may last for hours, but new research reveals it takes less than 20 minutes for the average American to know if they want a second date. The survey commissioned by Avocado Green Mattress and conducted by OnePoll of 2-thousand single U.S. adults finds that people know whether or not they’d like to see someone again after just 19 minutes of their first date.

When it comes to the date itself:

  • The top things people are looking for in a date are manners (51%), personality (48%) and conversation skills (47%), and physical appearance matters, too (44%).
  • Specific topics of conversation are red flags to respondents, with 53% saying they’d be turned off if someone brought up sex on a first date. Religion (51%) and exes (47%) may also give someone the ick.

When it comes to partner compatibility:

  • Eco-consciousness matters, as 74% of those polled say they’re more likely to go on a first date with someone they believe to be sustainable.
  • Nearly half (44%) have discussed environmental issues during a first date.
  • More than three-quarters (82%) think it’s important to have a sustainable partner and 76% consider being environmentally friendly an attractive trait.
  • While 45% have caught their partner sneakily doing something that’s not eco-friendly, another 43% have “eco-shamed” their partner - calling them out for behavior that’s wasteful or environmentally unfriendly.
