Why Experts Say It’s Better To Not Rake Leaves

Experts are warning that raking the leaves in your yard may not be necessary and not raking might even be good for the environment. According to National Wildlife Federation naturalist David Mizejewski, leaves act as natural mulch, suppressing weeds and fertilizing the soil as they decompose.

They also absorb rain, improve yard health, and reduce runoff pollution. Plus, leaving leaves on your lawn creates a habitat for various animals, helping with pollination and pest control. Experts recommend using a lawn mower to chop up leaves for faster decomposition or using them as mulch in gardens and around trees.
