An unassuming man in Hinsdale, New Hampshire who wore threadbare clothing, lived in a mobile home, and did odd jobs for others, had a secret that would shock his 4,200-person community. Turns out Geoffrey Holt, who died at 82 years old in June, was sitting on $3.8-million.
Holt had confided to a neighbor that his mutual fund investments were doing better than expected and he wasn’t sure what to do with the money. That’s when the neighbor suggested leaving it to the town. No concrete plans have been made for how the donation will be used but ideas have been offered such as building restorations and an upgrade to the town hall.
