Last summer marked a significant milestone for Union Station as the Union Station Redevelopment Corporation (USRC) teamed up with Sing For Hope, a renowned non-profit organization, to launch a live weekly music series titled "The Stage at Union Station". This innovative initiative curated a selection of local artists performing in the Main Hall, injecting vibrancy into the space while long-term expansion plans were underway.
On March 6th, The Stage at Union Station will unveil its latest addition: students from the prestigious Duke Ellington School of the Arts. These young talents will grace the stage with two-hour performances scheduled throughout the year, commencing on March 6th.
While Sing for Hope may be relatively new to the Washington, D.C. arts scene, its legacy spans over two decades of bringing music to public spaces globally. Notably, Sing for Hope has left its mark in New York City's Moynihan Train Station, boasting a robust live music presence. Their renowned "Pianos Program" features artist-designed pianos strategically placed in public spaces, inviting everyone to partake in the joy of music.
The collaboration between Sing for Hope and Union Station signifies more than just a musical endeavor. It embodies a shared vision of fostering community engagement through the arts. This connection is further underscored by the appointment of Doug Carr as President and CEO of USRC in 2023. Doug's instrumental role in the transformation of Moynihan Station, coupled with his commitment to integrating Sing for Hope's initiatives, reflects a dedication to revitalizing public spaces.
