Wednesday marks Jacob's 10th birthday, and in honor of this milestone, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) has organized a heartwarming surprise. Alongside a dedicated 30-minute ride for Jacob and his family, WMATA has planned to present the young boy with a bus-themed cake and some Metro gear.
The event, which took place on March 13, 2024, saw a Metrobus adorned with the words "For Jacob" on its rear sign, marking the occasion with the help of the Make-A-Wish foundation.
Metro went above and beyond to create a memorable celebration for Jacob and his loved ones, holding the special event at their Friendship Heights garage. Leroy Jones, Metro's Senior VP of Bus Services, and Leli Creedon, CEO of Mid-Atlantic Make-A-Wish Foundation, were anticipated guests at the festivities, joining the family in marking Jacob's special day.
Jacob, a child battling a critical illness, had his wish fulfilled thanks to the collaborative efforts of Metro and the Mid-Atlantic Make-A-Wish Foundation. In a statement, Metro expressed its pride in being able to fulfill Jacob's wish, noting that it was the first time the agency had coordinated a request from the nonprofit.
The heartwarming event not only brought joy to Jacob and his family but also highlighted the power of community and compassion.
