Science Reveals the Best Side for a Selfie

We’ve all been there: trying to snap the perfect selfie during a night out, only to end up with a gallery full of awkward angles and forced smiles. But a new study suggests there might be a scientifically-backed "correct" side to capture your best selfie.

While seasoned selfie-takers often have a go-to angle, this research points to a specific side of the face that might be universally flattering. According to the study, our brain’s structure influences how we perceive our facial features, and it turns out that the left side is the “right” side for selfies.

The researchers analyzed 2,000 selfies and discovered a significant pattern: 41% showed a “left cheek bias,” 31.5% a “right cheek bias,” 19.5% an “overall midline bias,” and 8% exhibited no bias at all. So why is the left side so popular?

The study suggests that the left side of our face is more expressive because it’s linked to the right hemisphere of the brain, which controls our emotions. This connection means the left side might display our emotions more vividly, making for a more engaging and appealing selfie.

Next time you’re angling for the perfect shot, remember: the left side might just be your best side!
