Gen Z vs. DIY: Can’t Fix It, Won’t Fix It

Well, well, well... looks like Gen Z is more likely to "stitch" a TikTok than stitch up a hole in the wall. A new study has revealed that a quarter of these digital natives wouldn’t dare take on DIY tasks—and honestly, are we even surprised? 🤷‍♀️

For starters, 1 in 5 Gen Zers (that’s ages 18-27, for the uninitiated) couldn’t identify a spanner if it hit them in the face. And changing a lightbulb? Forget about it. Apparently, twisting and turning isn’t their forte unless it’s part of a viral dance challenge. 🕺💡

But let’s cut them some slack. Most of them are renters, and landlords don’t exactly hand out gold stars for installing shelves or repainting walls. (More like a sternly worded email, complete with passive-aggressive emojis. 🏚️➡️😡)

Still, Gen Z isn’t completely hopeless. They’re masters of the YouTube University hustle. Need to fix a clogged drain? Boom—just search "drain hack" and scroll past the weird ones involving Coca-Cola. Got IKEA furniture? Don’t even bother with the manual—there’s probably a better tutorial online anyway. 📲🛠️

The bigger question is: Are they actually bad at DIY, or do they just know there’s a quicker, tech-savvy way to get things done? After all, why own a toolkit when you can just Venmo your handy neighbor? 🤔

So, should we panic that Gen Z is abandoning the humble screwdriver? Nah. They might not know their Phillips from their flathead, but they’ll sure as heck find someone—or something—that does.
