Little Miner Taco Tackles School Lunch Debt in Prince George’s County

Little Miner Taco, a popular D.C.-area eatery with roots in Prince George’s County, is making a difference in the fight against school lunch debt. The restaurant, which started in a Mount Rainier food hall and now operates locations in Brentwood, Rockville, and D.C., has long been committed to feeding its community.

Owner Kathy Voss recently introduced a program at the Brentwood location where kids' meals are priced at $3, with all proceeds going to the Excellence in Education Foundation. This nonprofit supports Prince George’s County Public Schools by funding school meals and other essential programs. More than 60% of the county’s students qualify for free or reduced meals, making this initiative especially impactful.

“We’re passionate about feeding people, and this program allows us to support kids in need,” Voss explained. During COVID-19, the restaurant provided free meals for kids, and now it’s continuing that spirit of generosity by directly addressing food insecurity.

Quarterly donations are made based on kids’ meals sold, with a similar program benefiting Montgomery County schools through the Rockville location.

Prince George’s County Public Schools Superintendent Millard House II praised Little Miner Taco’s efforts, calling them a “champion for education” and a vital community partner.

Voss hopes other local businesses will join the cause, saying, “Prince George’s County could use all the support it can get from our community and business owners.”

This initiative proves that good food and goodwill go hand in hand.
