D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser has announced that beginning on Monday, Nov. 22, the indoor mask mandate in the District for public areas will be brought to an end...with a few exceptions.

While most places will lift the rule, the following will still require masks regardless of an individual's vaccination status:

  • On public transit and in rideshare vehicles
  • Inside schools, child care facilities and libraries
  • In congregate facilities including nursing homes, shelters, dorms and jails
  • At D.C. government facilities where employees and the public interact

DC's official COVID-19 site also shares that "[i]nstead of following a blanket mandate, residents, visitors, and workers will be advised to follow risk-based guidance from DC Health that accounts for current health metrics and a person’s vaccination status."
