One common frustration for couples is dealing with guests who fail to RSVP by the deadline. After hearing numerous tales from brides about friends and family members neglecting to respond to wedding invitations, Mistry decided to take action. She crafted what she calls "missed RSVP" cards, providing couples with a gentle yet necessary tool to address the situation.
The message on the cards is straightforward yet respectful: "We're sorry you can't make it to our wedding. Our RSVP deadline has passed, and unfortunately, you did not respond. We would have loved to have you attend, but final numbers have now been turned in, and your presence will be missed."
For Mistry, this issue is particularly significant within her company's membership community, where South Asian weddings often involve hundreds of guests and span several days of celebrations. Recalling the arduous task of personally contacting 550 guests for her own wedding, Mistry emphasizes the importance of timely responses and proper etiquette.
Despite receiving criticism for the perceived harshness of the message, Mistry stands by the necessity of the cards. She argues that guests have had the invitation for months, making their failure to respond inconsiderate.
While acknowledging that the wording could be softened, Mistry reiterates the importance of holding guests accountable for their actions. Many brides have expressed support for the "missed RSVP" message, viewing it as a way to reinforce proper etiquette.
