Are You a Long or Short Sleeper? Here's the Difference

Are you someone who struggles with hitting the snooze button every morning? If so, you might actually be a natural long sleeper. Unlike short sleepers who function well on less than six hours of sleep per night, long sleepers typically require nine or more hours of sleep to feel rested.

Long sleepers experience a longer biological night compared to short sleepers. During this extended period, the body undergoes various physiological changes such as the secretion of melatonin and other hormones, along with a decrease in body temperature.

Interestingly, being a long sleeper is often a persistent trait that is challenging to change. Once your body has adapted to requiring more sleep, it can be difficult to adjust to a shorter sleep schedule.

If you find yourself regularly needing more sleep than others to function optimally during the day, you might fall into the category of a natural long sleeper. Understanding your body's sleep needs can be crucial in maintaining overall health and well-being.
