A NoVa Community's Heartwarming Support for a Brave Car Enthusiast

In Northern Virginia, a community has united to bring joy to Alex Scott, a 52-year-old car enthusiast battling cerebral palsy and liver cancer. Alex, who loves cars and airplanes, spends his days by the window with a car magazine in hand. His sister, Samantha Tunador, wanted to create a special tribute for Alex, who is in hospice care.

On June 5, Samantha posted on Facebook, asking if anyone with a cool car or connections to car clubs in Loudoun County and Leesburg could drive by their home and give a friendly honk. The response was overwhelming. The hashtag #AlexLovesCars started trending, and car enthusiasts and organizations quickly rallied to support Alex. Blair’s Towing & Recovering, the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, ECHO Works, and a 1972 British Triumph Stag were among the first to drive by and wave.

Alex’s mother, Helena Talbot, captured a touching video of Alex’s excitement as cars paraded past their house. His nephew, Evin Tunador, shared how Alex eagerly points towards the window, asking, “Is it car time?”

The community's support continued to grow, with car clubs scheduled to drive by throughout the weekend. The family requested no honking at 2 p.m. during Alex’s nap time and asked participants to respect closed blinds. Alex’s room at 262 Masons Lane SE, Leesburg, offers a perfect view for him to enjoy the drive-bys.

Everyone is invited to join the drive-by parade from June 7 to June 16. This incredible support highlights the power of community and simple acts of kindness, bringing immense joy to Alex’s days.
