D.C. Restaurant Now Offering 'Quiet Hours'

Ceibo, the vibrant South American restaurant in Adams Morgan, is pioneering a fresh concept to enhance your dining pleasure. Introducing "Lo-Fi" Sundays, Ceibo now offers a quieter dining experience during Sunday lunch and early dinner, lowering the volume to create a more peaceful atmosphere.

Owners and brothers Juan and Manuel Olivera launched this initiative in response to neighborhood feedback. "We started to get some feedback, especially from some folks in the neighborhood. They started asking if we can open lunch or if there’s a better time that they could come where it’s quiet," says Manuel.

From noon to 3 PM and 5 to 6 PM on Sundays, Ceibo sets a relaxed tone with a softer playlist and quieter service. The staff has been instructed to lower their voices and avoid loud activities like moving furniture and clanking silverware. This subtle shift aims to create a serene environment without imposing strict rules on diners.

The concept of quiet hours has been endorsed by Washington Post critic Tom Sietsema, who has long advocated for quieter dining experiences. With nearly 48 million Americans experiencing some degree of hearing loss, the potential market for such an initiative is significant.

Though "Lo-Fi" Sundays were introduced quietly, Ceibo plans to promote them more actively on social media, their website, and on Resy. The feedback has been positive so far, with diners appreciating the calm environment. As Manuel notes, "If people like it, we can probably expand it a little more as we grow naturally."

Visit Ceibo at 2106 18th St., NW, and enjoy the tranquility of "Lo-Fi" Sundays for a unique and serene dining experience.
