As Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin gears up for his sixth NFL training camp, he's already scoring big off the field. McLaurin, who faces yet another season with a new starting quarterback, has been dedicating his time to meaningful community service before reporting to Ashburn on Tuesday.
On Friday, McLaurin was at McKinley Middle School in Washington, D.C., for the unveiling of "Terry’s Locker." But what exactly is "Terry’s Locker"?
"Terry’s Locker is designed to provide washers, dryers, hygienic resources, and toiletries for kids and their families who may not have access to these necessities in their day-to-day life," McLaurin explained.
"In partnership with United Health Care, we found that many kids are missing school due to a lack of clean clothes and hygiene products. It's unfortunate because every child should feel confident and have the essentials they need to focus on learning, making friends, and chasing their dreams just like I did."
McLaurin, the Commanders team captain, unveiled the project with enthusiasm. "Terry's Locker" aims to support students by equipping them with fully stocked laundry facilities and a variety of hygiene products, ensuring they have one less barrier to their education and personal growth.
Inspired by his former teammate Nick Sundberg, who created the "Loads of Love" initiative to help local children, McLaurin continues to demonstrate his commitment to community service. His efforts last season earned him the nomination for the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award.
As training camp approaches, McLaurin is also looking forward to working with the Commanders' new quarterback, Jayden Daniels. Balancing his on-field responsibilities with his impactful off-field initiatives, McLaurin is truly making a difference in the lives of many.
