The spirit of giving was alive and well as 100 families from Maryland, Virginia, and DC came together at the William Beanes Community Center in Prince George’s County for the third annual Holiday Gift Giveaway. The event, hosted by Judge Me Now, a Maryland-based nonprofit, brought joy, laughter, and holiday magic to families in need.
Designed to support local students and introduce them to STEM opportunities, Judge Me Now created a festive atmosphere complete with food, music, games, arts and crafts, and the highlight of the day: a chance for every child, ages 3 to 16, to pick out two special toys to take home.
The 100 participating families were selected through social media outreach, email nominations, and partnerships with schools and community centers. Ta’Kia Toomer, founder of Judge Me Now, shared that the team took on the role of Santa’s helpers this year. “Santa needed a little backup,” she joked, “so we stepped in to make sure families had a reason to smile this holiday season.”
The event’s success was made possible through a true community effort. Volunteers, local businesses, and organizations, including the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission and Prince George’s County Council member Krystal Oriadha, came together to donate food, toys, and their time.
This annual event continues to be a heartwarming reminder of what the holidays are all about: generosity, community, and spreading joy to those who need it most.
