CHILLI: We Had a Storybook Halloween In Our Neighborhood

I'm still smiling as I look back and pictures and videos from Halloween. I don't know about you, but I have so many fond memories of Halloween from my childhood. My friends and I would excitedly get together and walk from house to house...then we'd sit around and compare our loot. Sometimes we traded candy. Back then, we wore either homemade costumes...or we bought those cheap plastic clothes...with hard plastic masks that jacked up our lips/noses. I laugh thinking about it.

Anyhow, when Donato was a baby, I remember looking forward to the day when he was old enough to go trick-or-treating. I used to live in townhouse community that didn't have a lot of kids. When my husband and I were house shopping three years ago, we knew we wanted to move into a neighborhood where there were other kids Donato's age. I pictured him running from house to house with this friends on Halloween like I used to. Well...my dream became a reality last night.

My cul-de-sac hosts a block party each year and we have the kids "parade" down the street in their costumes. After eating pizza, the kids split up into subgroups and started trick or treating. I stood back and watched Donato sprint from door to door in his Superman costume. I couldn't stop smiling. It made me so happy that he was making memories. I really hope last night was the start of more "story book" Halloween nights in our neighborhood. He may not remember what candy he got when he gets older...but he'll always remember the experience.
