Maybe I'm just spoiled, but reading this news that Netflix is experimenting with gradual releases of some of their most popular shows has me freaking out a little!
Who doesn't love the thrill of finally being able to settle in for an afternoon, evening, and long night, of binging a favorite show when a new season drops? A few months ago I was completely pumped and cleared my schedule for the weekend when I saw season 2 of Virgin River was available. One of the best things about streaming services is the immediate gratification of getting full seasons all at once!
Hulu did this with The Handmaid's Tale and a bunch of other shows, Disney Plus did it with The Mandalorian, and on Tuesday, Netflix announced on their blog they're doing it with The Circle and Too Hot To Handle.
"We’re also experimenting with the release format so you have time to dissect and dish on every step of the competition as it unfolds. We’ll debut several new episodes at a time on Wednesdays beginning with the first four episodes of The Circle on April 14. Once The Circle wraps in May, Too Hot to Handle takes over in June."
Thank you Netflix, but I don't need time to "dissect and dish on every step", I need it all so I can watch at my own pace... Which is one episode after another, breaking only to pee and get some ice cream!
So far this is only affecting these two shows, but if it works well, they're probably going to come for Bridgerton and Sweet Magnolias and then I'm going to be upset...
What do you think?
