5 TED Talks on Happiness... If You Need Some Inspiration

Have you been feeling kind of blah lately? It's not surprising... The last year has been tough for so many reasons, and those of us who struggle with anxiety and depression are even more susceptible to falling into a rut. I've been reading some great books about personal growth and watching a lot of TED Talks lately, so I wanted to share a few of them that really stood out to me.

They're mostly focused on happiness - where it actually comes from, how to be happier, and how to make others happy too.

Shawn Achor - The Happiness Advantage: Linking Positive Brains to Performance

Does the external world predict internal happiness? What truly makes people happy and how can we create environments conducive to happiness? This TED Talk is about reversing the formula for happiness and success.

Katarina Blom - You Don't Find Happiness, You Create It

"Think positive" just doesn't work. So how do we really minimize negative thinking and live happier lives?

Jacqueline Way - How To Be Happy Every Day: It Will Change the World

Is giving the key to happiness? Jacqueline Way and her 3-year-old committed to giving something to others every day for a year... She documented their story at 365give.ca and it's pretty amazing.

Louise Evans - Own Your Behaviors, Master Your Communication, Determine Your Success

This one will really make you think about how you react to situations and other people. Louise Evans uses 5 chairs to go through the choices we have when we are upset by someone else's behavior. Really insightful and something I know I need to work on.

Dr. Joan Rosenberg - Emotional Mastery: The Gifted Wisdom of Unpleasant Feelings

Dr. Joan Rosenberg talks about the power of feeling your unpleasant feelings instead of stuffing them or using unhealthy coping mechanisms. I actually remember a therapist I saw after my mom died many years ago telling me to "just sit with it" when it came to my feelings of grief and sadness. Allowing yourself to embrace those moments of unpleasant feelings will help you release them and move forward in your life.
