Corpse Flower Sequel: Stink x 3

The biggest stink on Capitol Hill is about to come from…the US Botanic Garden.

Remember last year when the so-called "corpse flower" bloomed at the garden? Tens of thousands of people visited to get a hit of the stench. Well, later this month, the garden may have three in bloom at the same time. That would smell like a trio of trash trucks in a small space (or like a lot of rotting flesh, which is why the plant is dubbed the corpse flower)

Peak bloom for the amorphophallus titanum (literally, “big misshapen penis”) is predicted to be between August 17 and 21. But keep checking the live stream (above). The prime stink only lasts for a few hours, usually in the evening (though last year’s bloom happened during the day).

The Botanic Garden will remain open each night til 10 when the flowers are in bloom.
