The Academy Awards has made some changes designed to keep the show “relevant in a changing world.”
The big addition is a new award category for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Film. In a message to its members, the Academy said eligibility requirements for the category and other details would be "forthcoming," but it's believed to give superhero movies and other box-office hits a better chance at winning Oscars.
(OK, I nominate "The Greatest Showman"!!!!)
The Academy will also will shorten the telecast to three hours to make the ceremony "more accessible for our viewers worldwide" and to do that, some of the awards will be handed out during commercial breaks.
