Since he was born on August 21st, we've seen a lot of milestones for the new baby panda at the National Zoo. When he opened his eyes...when his black and white markings began to show...the announcement of his name - Xiao Qi Ji, which means “little miracle” - and now, we get to witness the cub taking his very first steps!
It happened over the Thanksgiving weekend and panda fanatics like myself were giddy with excitement!
According to the zoo's panda keepers..."At 3 months and 5 days old, Xiao Qi Ji took his first steps! That morning, he rested just outside the den while his mother Mei Xiang slept inside. After months of practice, he positioned all four feet beneath him and took a few wobbly steps toward her before toppling over."
