The number of cicadas will double when the females emerge

This may sound strange but...we haven't seen one single cicada at our house in upper Montgomery County (we live just south of Damascus)...and the FOMO is real! I'm actually a bit bummed that we don't have them...and am wondering if we'll even GET any in our area!

The males have been around for a bit now throughout the DMV but the females are still underground, apparently, and according to an entomologist with the Smithsonian, the cicada population will double when the ladies arise...for those areas where there are already plenty of the bugs: YIKES!

I gotta say, I lived here back in 2004 when the cicadas invaded the last time...I was in Arlington, and I just don't remember them being that bad. Remains to be seen what's gonna happen at our place!
