Pets in the path of Hurricane Ida are being evacuated to Virginia. Several shelter and rescue organizations in the region have answered the call to help house pets that were evacuated due to the hurricane. The first transports of dogs arrived last night at the Lucky Dog Animal Rescue in Arlington as officials work to find foster homes for pets from Mississippi shelters. Officials say they anticipate more dogs to arrive at their facility in the days and weeks to come.
Homeward Trails Animal Rescue is also assisting, writing this on their Facebook page: "We have been asked to step up NOW to take in animals immediately before the storm hits. NOW is the time when we need urgent help. Fostering or adopting an animal NOW will save more than that one life. It will save dozens. Please donate, foster and adopt NOW. Lives depend on it."
