In case you didn’t know, Airbnb.com is a website that lets you rent places owned by other people. These aren’t hotels or motels. They’re private homes, owned by regular folks.
Well, people around the world are now using Airbnb.com to help regular folks in Ukraine.
The people in Ukraine are putting their homes up on the website -- as if they were inviting customers to rent. Customers are paying those people in Ukraine -- as if they were going to stay at those homes in Ukraine.
Except ... The customers aren’t actually staying there. Instead, they’re just paying the “rent” to help the people of Ukraine during these difficult times.
The rent money gets transferred to the people of Ukraine -- as if it’s a donation.
Last week, in just a couple of days, guests from around the world -- mostly from the United States -- booked more than 61,000 nights in Ukraine.
The people who received the money were thankful -- and promised to distribute as much as they could to their neighbors.
Some guests communicated that they’re excited about one day actually visiting Ukraine. But for now, they’re happy to be able to do something good for those in trouble on the other side of the world. (New York Post)
