Construction is beginning to ramp up in Fairfax on the new 83-million-dollar Fairfax County Parkway interchange at Popes Head Road. The project will see a flyover bridge built to carry Popes Head over the Parkway, thereby eliminating the need for one of the longest traffic lights in Virginia. It runs five-and-a-half minutes for drivers on Popes Head during peak travel periods. Three roundabouts, an extension of Shirley Gate Road and another flyover bridge are also part of the effort that'll finish up in 2026. The changes will also help to alleviate traffic woes on nearby Braddock Road and Route 123.
