A pair of giant pandas has arrived in Washington, DC!!! The China Wildlife Conservation Association announced that three-year-old pandas Bao Li [[ bow lee ]] and Qing Bao [[ ching bow ]] departed China yesterday. The National Zoo has been without pandas for nearly a year after three pandas were returned to China last November. The Smithsonian announced the National Zoo will be closed today in anticipation of their arrival. The pandas will not go on display for the public for several weeks as they will have to acclimate to their new location first.
And THIS is pretty cool - one of the pandas has strong family ties to the zoo. Bao Li will be the third generation of his family to live there. His grandparents came to DC in 2000 and his mom, Bao Bao, was the only female cub ever born at the National Zoo.
