Full Frontal host Samantha Bee is planning a roast of President Donald Trump that just happens to be planned on the same night he is hosting the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner on April 29th. She has dubbed the event Not the White House Correspondents' Dinner.
Traditionally, the dinner is an opportunity for comedians and journalists to mercilessly roast the president, but Bee appears to fear that the current political climate will have a chilling effect on the free-for-all fun. She tells the New York Times: “We’re not trying to supersede it. We just want to be there in case something happens — or doesn’t happen — and ensure that we get to properly roast the president.”
- Details about the Bee event are still being ironed out, but the Times is reporting that the evening will likely air in some form on TBS, the network that airs Full Frontal. Proceeds from her dinner will be donated to the Committee to Protect Journalists.
- Bee has been a vocal critic of Trump, ripping into his claims of voter fraud and even united with foe Glenn Beck to fight what they call "Trumpism."
- Guests for the event have not yet been announced.
