How the Contes Got Through the Heatwave

I must admit, I was pretty excited about my "out of the box" parenting this weekend during the heatwave. Eleanor has a few things going on during her weekends including piano lessons at the International School of Music with her dad on Saturday mornings, and swim lessons at Lifetime on Sunday mornings. After she zonked out for close to 4 hours after swimming lessons (we had a crazy mall day on Saturday afternoon/evening as well so she was beat) I was trying to figure out what we could do to entertain ourselves that did not involve screen time. Not only did we do our nails, play the "make up game" (where we do our own make up and experiment with whatever looks we want that day), we also dressed in our mermaid costumes we picked up on Amazon Prime day last week! We go to Rehoboth, Delaware each year for the annual Sea Witch Festival, which is basically a weekend long Halloween festival, so we like to go all out on our costumes. Eleanor and I decided we should go as mermaids this year and ordered some great costume accessories that were fun to play with for dress up! This is my new thing. Rainy day? Let's be pirates!
