It's best to be aware of the news laws when they going into effect, so you don't accidentally break one! In the DMV we have a few news laws that go into effect today, October 1st. In DC, there is a new DC soda tax. Bottled "soft drinks" will not have an 8% sales tax. Drinks meant for immediate consumption, which I am assuming means fountain sodas, will still have a 10% sales tax. Another new aspect to this rule, is a soft drink is now also considered any beverage with natural and artificial sweeteners that have less than 100% juice, or less than 50% milk, coffee or tea. Wait, does that mean I have to pay higher tax on La Croix?
