Alaskan Born Olympian Wins Gold for a State That Has Only One 50m Pool

This is such a heartwarming story. Lydia Jacoby is the first Alaskan born Olympic swimmer, and came home with her first gold medal yesterday after winning the 100 meter breaststroke. After I watched the race live here in my studio at work, I caught a bit of Jacoby's personal story and got choked up when I learned there is only one 50 meter swimming pool in all of Alaska. I just thought of the dedication from not only Jacoby, but her parents carting her back and forth to practice every day, multiple times a week. As a parent, you watch the Olympics in a completely different light because you know the sacrifice and dedication it takes to nourish your child's hobbies hoping one day they will be everything they hope for them to be. In Lydia's case she made not only her parents, but her small down of Seward, Alaska so very proud.
